Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000
The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act, 2000 (RIPA) was enacted so that surveillance activities are regulated to ensure compliance with the principles of the Human Rights Act, 1998 (HRA).
The Act regulates the use by Local Authorities of directed surveillance and covert human intelligence sources.
