RoSPA Safe At Home National Home Safety Equipment Scheme
The scheme aims to reduce the number of children under five years old becoming involved in accidents at home by providing safety equipment and information to parents about how to make their home safer. According to Unicef, ‘Injury has become the leading killer of children’ (2002) therefore, our aim to reduces accidents in the home.
Although we try whenever possible to install the equipment in the client's preferred location we are governed by legislation, manufacturer’s guidelines and the layout and condition of their home.
What does a Home Safety Pack include?
The Home Safety Packs, which will be fitted by fully trained and CRB checked fitters, can include:
- Safety gates
- Fire guard
- Window restrictors
- Locks for kitchen cupboards containing cleaning chemicals and medications
- Corner cushions
- Non-slip bath or shower mat
- Cord Winder
Who will benefit from the scheme?
- Have a child or children five years or under and live in Torbay
- Be in receipt of one of the following benefits:
- Income support
- Job seeker's allowance (income based)
- Income based Employment and Support Allowance
- Tax credits - one of the partners receives tax credit and have a valid NHS tax exemption certificate
- Disability living allowance care or mobility component for a disabled child
- Housing benefit
- Council tax benefit (not council tax discounts)
