Emergency Information

If an emergency occurs which has an impact on Torbay, information and updates will be published on this page.

National Pandemic Flu Service

The National Pandemic Flu Service closed on 11 February 2010.
The Service, which operated over the telephone and online, enabled people to receive an online ’assessment’ of flu like symptoms and arrange access to antiviral medication.
However, with the number of people using the service at its lowest since it was set up, it has been decided that it is now more appropriate for local health services to resume these responsibilities.
From 1am on the 11 February, those concerned that they or a member of their family has swine flu like symptoms should telephone their local GP practice or, if out of hours, Devon Doctors on 0845 6710 270. If possible, people should still avoid attending the surgery in person to avoid potentially spreading the virus to others.
Torbay’s pharmacy based antiviral (medicine for the treatment of swine flu symptoms) collection points across the Bay will continue to operate. Should your GP believe you would benefit from antivirals you will be given details of how and where to pick up your medication.
The closure of the flu service does not impact upon the swine flu vaccination programme. The Care Trust is continuing to run the local vaccination programme with GP practices and parents of children aged under-five years and over six months are currently being contacted to offer them the vaccination.
