Day nurseries provide full day care, often from 8am to 6pm every week day and for 50 weeks of the year. They provide childcare and education (including the free 2½ house nursery sessions available for 3 and 4 year olds during school term times).
The age of range of children can vary depending on the nursery’s Ofsted registration and so you will find that some day nurseries accept children aged 0-5, while others may cater for a smaller age range, for example, 3-5 year olds.
School nurseries normally offer the free nursery sessions and do not charge for your child to attend. However, you may be charged for additional services such as lunches, extra curricular activities and outings. These classes are only open to children aged 3 and 4 years old.
For more information about nurseries, please visit the National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) website, or the Childcarelink website.
