The following charges apply from 1 April 2008 to 31 March 2009.

Overdue Books

Adult15pper item, per day, to a maximum of:£3.60

Recorded Sound

Music CDs and Language Courses (except for Special language Sets) are hired for an initial period of 1 week, at the rates shown below.

Beyond the initial period there will be an additional hire charge of 15p per day for singles or sets of 2 (to a maximum of £3.60) and 30p per day for sets of 3 or more items  and special Language Sets(to a maximum of £7.20).

DVDs and Videos are hired for an initial period of 1 week, at the following rates:

Hire of Music & Play Sets

This facility is provided through joint arrangements with Devon and Plymouth library services. Please ask a member of staff for details.

Lost and Damaged Items

Where the original cost of a lost or damaged item is known, this will be charged. Otherwise, a sliding scale of charges, based on the standard replacement cost and the age of the item, will be applied.

A re-binding charge will be applied where this is appropriate.

For lost items of stock returned within 12 months, a deduction of £1.00 (inc. VAT) per item will be made from refunds. Refunds will not be given for items found after this period.

b. Photographic work and digitisation

Charges for this work are based on the actual cost to Torbay Library Services plus an amount to cover staff time and administration. The whole charge is subject to VAT. Please ask staff for more details.

c. Reproduction rights and royalties

Torbay Library Services will allow reproduction for commercial publications or broadcasts of some material for which Torbay Council holds the copyright and for some material which is out of copyright and owned by the Council. Please ask staff for assistance.

Residential Establishments

Residential establishments are charged on a sliding scale for the provision of a domiciliary library service. Please contact the Service Inclusion Coordinator at Torquay Central Library for further information on 01803 209294.

Hire of Premises

Hire of Meeting Room

  • Non profit making organisations:   £3.50 per hour
  • Profit making organisations:          £8.50 per hour

Hire of ICT Learning Centres

Torquay and Paignton learning centres are available to groups to use for ICT training

  • Rate per hour: £7.50

Concessions

Over and above the concessions detailed above, the following also apply:

People under 16 years of age

  • Free initial loan period of Junior Language items.

Chronically sick or disabled

  • Up to 3 renewals and exemption from overdue charges for spoken word items. This concession also applies to children who are registered with the library as disabled and who wish to borrow Junior Spoken Word items.
  • Free initial loan period for music CDs and Language Courses
  • Free recorded sounds reservations (maximum of 4 at any time)

Note:

In appropriate circumstances, libary staff are authorised to exercise discretion in the matter of overdue charges and replacement charges.
