Environmental Health

The Environmental Health & Consumer Protection Division has responsibility for a wide range of public health, safety & welfare functions. Many are commonly know, such as the control of rats & mice, Food Safety & Trading; to the more unusual such as a wide range of Licensing activities & the monitoring of School Meals.

Although the Division has responsibility for enforcing numerous pieces of legislation, the use of enforcement powers is just one of the tools we use to promote & protect safety & health.

The Division comprises the following teams:

  • Environmental Protection: including Statutory Nuisance, Noisy Neighbours, Air Quality, Pest Control & Drainage problems in Private Sewers Drains.

  • Food Safety: including inspection of Food Premises, advice on Food Labelling, Infectious Disease Control, Health Initiatives, School Meals Client Monitoring & Food Sampling

  • Safety & Licensing: including Licensing Act 2003, Taxis, Private Hire Vehicles, Petroleum Licensing, Fireworks, Safety Inspections of Workplace & Accident Investigations.

  • Community Protection: including Street Wardens, Dog Wardens & Contaminated Land

  • Trading Standards: including Consumer Advice, Animal Health, Weights & Measures, Product Safety & Fair Trading

  • Bereavement Services: including the management of the Crematorium, Memorial Safety & Maintenance of closed Churchyards.
