Anti-graffiti line will aid Bay clean up
A new anti-graffiti reporting line has been set up by Torbay Council as part of its package of measures aimed at cleaning up the Bay.
The new number -- 01803 207 900 -- will enable members of the public to phone in with incidents of graffiti to the council, which aims to deploy staff within 48 hours to get rid of it.
Cllr Jeanette Richards, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: "This new service forms part of our high priority commitment to working for a cleaner, greener and safer Bay.
Members of the public can phone 207 900 during normal office hours. The council wants to get graffiti reports across the Bay and will prioritise council-owned property such as park and street furniture, car parks and other public buildings, beach and promenade areas, toilets and litter bins.
Although the council will try to respond within 48 hours wherever possible, clean up operations will depend on ease of access to affected areas and the types of surfaces and graffiti-daubing substance involved.
Graffiti on private property remains the responsibility of the property owner. However, the council is also offering guidance on graffiti removal to local residents, and may be able to help with clean up work as resources permit. The council cannot guarantee that it will be able to remove graffiti from private property. Residents will be asked to complete various reporting and agreement forms before work can be carried out.
