Resettlement

The Resettlement Team is part of the Housing Needs Service.

We work closely with landlords, supported housing providers, Housing Associations and other agencies in Torbay to help vulnerable people find, move into and keep accommodation which best meets their needs. If you need help from us, we will discuss and agree with you the type of accommodation which would be most suitable for you.

We also make sure that people receive the right support to enable them to live independently. This could be helping you to keep your home if you are at risk of becoming homeless by floating support, where a worker visits you in your own home or by referring you to supported accommodation.

What kind of support can you give me?

We can also help by referring you to other agencies who can give you help and support, for example:

  • Medical Services
  • Drug and alcohol Services
  • Community groups
  • Organisations which offer training opportunities.

I am homeless and I’m living in temporary accommodation

We help people to move on from temporary housing into more settled accommodation.

If you are placed in temporary accommodation, you will be given a named resettlement officer who will contact you and discuss with you the type of accommodation and support which would be best for you. The same officer will keep in regular contact with you to make sure we have up to date information about your needs and let you know how things are progressing with finding you accommodation and also support if you need it.

Can my housing officer refer me for support?

If you see a Housing Needs Assessment Officer, they will discuss with you your housing needs but will also talk to you about whether you would benefit either from floating support to help you stay in your current home or whether supported accommodation would be the best option for you. If after talking to you, you agree that you need support they will put you in touch with the Referral HUB who will  refer you to the service which they feel would best meet your needs.
