There are three museums within Torbay - the English Riviera, offering a rich history for those who wish to find out more about our past.

Torre Abbey was founded in 1196 and is Torquay's most historic building. As well as its abbey ruins it houses a superb collection of paintings and antiques.  The nearby Spanish Barn was used to hold prisoners after the Spanish Armada of 1588.

Take a journey into Torquay Museum where our fascinating past is on display. Find out about local wildlife, famous people and Torquay through the ages.  The museum houses a variety of temporary exhibitions throughout the year. The Agatha Christie Memorial Room is well worth a look to discover the history behind the famous crime writer.

Brixham Heritage Museum tells the story of the Riviera's oldest town, from the Stone Age through to the present day, using a strong nautical flavour.  Particular emphasis is given to fishing, ship building and maritime  Brixham.  To find out about maritime events visit the Brixham Heritage Museum website.

If archaeology interests you then find out where and when we are holding a dig!
