Car Share Devon
In March 2003, Torbay Council helped set up CarShareDevon.com which is a novel and exciting way of cutting your car use . Over 1500 people are now signed up to the scheme in Devon
The scheme is run run in partnership with Devon County Council and Plymouth City Council and comes under the "Liftshare" umbrella, which is a nationwide initiative run to encourage people to be more TravelWise.
What is Car-Sharing?
Car-sharing is when two or more people share. Most of us share cars on a regular basis, with our friends and families, but there are times when you don't know anyone with whom you can share your journey, and that's where organised car-sharing can help.
Liftshare is the largest car sharing scheme in the UK. The company helps drivers and passengers get together on-line, and arrange to share their journeys. All our sites are free to use, and available to everyone in the UK. With more than 36,000 members and over 2 million journeys registered on-line, we can help you to arrange a lift to almost anywhere in the UK.
Liftshare also provides car-sharing schemes to companies, Councils and other organisations in the form of secure private groups or branded web-sites. Current clients include IKEA, Manchester Airport and TNT - all of whom set-up car-sharing schemes for their staff and/or customers. liftshare have also set up car-sharing schemes for many Councils across the UK, including Cornwall County Council, Norwich Council and most of the London Boroughs.
