School Crossing Patrol Code of Practice
By following the School Crossing Patrol Code you and your children can be a great help to the patrol.
- When you get to the crossing wait on the pavement/ hard standing behind the kerb until you are signalled to cross
- You may need to wait if other children/parents are coming to cross and/or the Patrol is waiting for a gap between the moving traffic on the road.
- You must wait until the Patrol speaks and signals to you to cross the road before you step off the kerb.
- The Patrol will normally use their free hand to signal to you once they have stopped the traffic and have positioned themselves in the middle of the road.
- You must cross in front of the Patrol so he/she can see you
- You must not run across the road
- If the Patrol is coming back to the pavement as you arrive at the kerb edge do not step out. Wait until the Patrol returns and cross with them when they have stopped the traffic once again and have signalled you to come across the road.
