Clennon Valley, Grange Fields and Saltern Cove

4 km/2.5 m Easy

Once a freshwater marsh, the the Paignton Town Tip and now reclaimed as playing fields and naturalised lakes, Clennon Valley has had a chequered history.  Nowadays the lakes are full of wildfowl and are a favourite feeding ground for bats at dusk.

The route strikes uphill through the old field systems of Grange Fields, then down a lane to climb up, once again, over the main road and to the top of Sugarloaf Hill, with impressive views over Torbay.  Along the Coast Path, past Saltern Cove Local Nature Reserve and on to Goodrington Beach, you can wander off to explore rock pools before returning to your start.
