Disregarded People

Some people aged over 18 can be ignored when counting the number of adults living in a property. If someone living with you falls into one of the following categories then they may not be counted (or are disregarded) for Council Tax purposes and you can claim the 25% discount on your bill.
Please note: A 25% discount cannot be awarded if, after ignoring all discounted people, two adults remain as living in the property. If there are more than two adults you will not be charged more.

Description of disregard:

What should I do when I have been given a discount which I do not believe I am entitled to receive?

If we have given you a discount but you are not entitled to one, or are no longer entitled to one, you must contact us to let us know. If you do not, you may be required to pay a penalty.

What if I disagree with the Council's decision?

If you do not agree with any decision that we have made, you should, in the first instance let us know why. We will always try to reach an amicable solution with you. If we can not agree, you do have the right to appeal to an independent tribunal.
