Single Person Discount

The full council tax bill assumes that there are two adults living in a dwelling. If only one adult lives in a dwelling (as their main home), the council tax bill is reduced by a quarter (25%).
If you are claiming for a date that is more than 12 months in the past you will need to supply evidence to support your claim.

Torbay Council conduct reviews of single person discounts offered to residents who live alone. We plan to provide these residents with the best possible service during the review and by offering clear instructions for completing forms sent to residents, which then need to be completed and returned to the council.
