How long will it take the Council to investigate my application?
Your Housing Advice Officer will complete the investigation work as quickly as possible. The Council will do its best to carry out the investigation work within 30 working days, then they have a further three days to notify you of the decision. You will receive a letter stating the decision which has been made, and if this decision is unfavourable, the reasons for this decision.
There is an opportunity to appeal against the Council's decision and you should write to the Council within twenty one days of being notified of the decision. It is important you state the reasons why you wish to appeal and you may seek assistance in this by contacting an independent housing advice agency.
What will happen after a decision?
Once a decision is issued, your Housing Advice Officer will discuss with you the various housing options. They may include:
- moving into private rented accommodation with assistance from the Council's rent deposit guarantee scheme
- moving into a private sector leased property managed by Westcountry Housing Association
- applying for the Council's Housing Register and interim accommodation.
The Housing Advice Officer will be as transparent and open as possible to ensure you have a realistic idea of the options available to you.
