Building Heights Strategy

Torbay Council/Torbay Development Agency have utilised New Growth Points funding to engage experts to produce a Building Heights Strategy that will guide future building height in Torbay. It will be an important planning document and will:
  • Set out recommended building heights for different areas of Torbay
  • Set out the circumstances and locations in which that height can be modified
  • Provide guidance for the location and design of taller buildings
As part of the Building Heights Strategy process several ‘drop-in’ consultation events were held in January 2010 to allow members of the public to provide some feedback and to investigate using the 3d interactive model being developed as part of the emerging Strategy. The feedback received was invaluable and has been collated and used within the final report. Information on the ‘Story Boards’ and Press Release used at the time of consultation can be downloaded from the Related Documents.
Several drafts of the Building Heights Strategy have been received, reviewed and amended, and the final report is available to download in the Related Documents.
It is to be noted that the Building Heights Strategy report produced by Urban Initiatives will be utilised forthwith by Spatial Planning as providing a material consideration in the determination of planning application for tall buildings in Torbay. It will also provide an evidence base for the preparation of relevant policies in relation to tall buildings to be included in the Core Strategy of the Local Development Framework (LDF).
