Transport Policy

Strategic Transportation Planning in Torbay is the responsibility of the Strategic Transportation Group, one of three sections that comprise the Strategic Environmental Policy Division. The two other teams in this Division are Strategic Planning and Environmental Policy.
We are chiefly responsible for the development and delivery of Torbay's Local Transport Plan.
This sets out the transportation policies and strategies for the programming and delivery of a sustainable transportation network for Torbay.  Key aspects of these policies and strategies are to encourage more sustainable methods of travel by encouraging walking, cycling and use of public transport while maintaining and improving the quality of the highway network.  Promotion of of sustainable travel events is also an important role of Strategic Transportation Planning.
We work in partnership with other public and private sector services to develop more sustainable travel solutions in the way people travel and to reduce the adverse effects of excessive car use upon the environment.  This can be done through the development of Business Travel Planning and the Torbay Freight Quality Partnership.
